Descendants of Francis LyonsGeneration No. 11. Francis Lyons was born 1791 in Virginia, and died Abt. 1871 in Wolfe Co. Kentucky. He married Mary A. McCall May 20, 1819 in Botetourt County, Virginia, daughter of Michael McCall. Notes for Francis Lyons: The first time I find Francis is in the 1809 tax records of Botetourt County Virginia. Francis is listed in most of the tax records of Botetourt County through 1821. Sometime after 1821 Francis and his family, along with Mary's parents moved to Lee County Virginia. On January 2, 1826 Francis purchased 100 acres of land in Lee County for $35 from William Briance of the state of Tennessee. Francis had several land transactions while he lived in Lee County. He bought 100 acres on Powels River from James and Sally Standford on January 22, 1836. On October 10th 1843 Francis and his wife Mary sold 100 acres of land in Lee County to CVRM Bales and Co. for $105. The last sale, August 25th 1845, was in preparation to move to Kentucky. Francis and Mary sold 100 acres of land to Caleb Bales for the sum of $400. In 1846 Francis moved to Morgan County Kentucky. Francis and Mary are found here and in Wolfe County (formally part of Morgan) Kentucky through the early 1870's. They were both most likely buried in this area. John and Clarissa moved to Edgar County Illinois about 1859 at the promise of the opportunity for free land. Land grants, lotteries, or some type of uprising were usually the reason for movement. Several families from the Morgan County Kentucky area are found in this part of Illinois. I think John was killed in 1866 shortly after Eveline, their last child was born. Notes for John Little Lyons: In 1874, John Little Lyons moved his family to Washington Co. Arkansas. He lived in Reed Township at a place called Thompson Switch. John was a farmer. He was described to me by his granddaughter, Mary Rosaleen(Lyons)Reid, the daughter of Joseph Harlen Lyons, as a short, stocky, red headed man. John Little Lyons was married three times. The first marriage was to Mary A. Nickell, born in Kentucky. They had a large family. Some of their children are: Logan, John Marion, Isaac Henry, Jessie, Dessie, (twins),Andrew Truman, William Sherman, Joseph Harlen, and Zurrilda J. Mary was listed as bedridden in the 1880 Washington Co. Arkansas census. Nickell, March 25, 1888 in Washington County, Arkansas. They were the parents of Elizabeth (1888), Purlena (1892), Millie (1894), and Dora Alice (1895). John L. and Mary Ann with their three children Dora Alice (John's stepdaughter), Rosa Velt and Ted moved to Lockesburg, Sevier County, Arkansas in 1905 or 1906. They shipped their possessions and the family made the transfer by train. John farmed at Winters Valley for a year, and then bought a farm. In 1908 he bought a Blacksmith shop in Ben Lomond, Arkansas. While he lived and worked in Ben Lomond, a team hitched to a wagon ran away with John severely injuring him. The family moved to the country between Ben Lomond and the Cassatat River at Gravely Point. Here the children attended school and church. During the time the family lived at Gravely Point, John took Pellagra and was hospitalized for 1-1/2 years at Broken Bow, Oklahoma. His son, Joseph Harlen, lived in Broken Bow. Mary Ann and the family moved to Forman, Little River, Arkansas so she could find work and provide for the family. She worked for a doctor. After John's return from the hospital, their last move was to a farm (known as the Body Farm) between Forman and Red River, so the children could work. John Little Lyons died May 8, 1928--Little River County, Arkansas. Mary Ann Leslie Lyons died July 21, 1930--Howard County, Arkansas. John L., Mary Ann and Ted Lyons are buried in Dollie Hyde Cemetery in Little River County. All three graves are unmarked. He married (1) Patsy Odessel Grice July 19, 1951 in Harrisonville,Missouri. He married (2) Mary Francis Crettol August 12, 1985 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Notes for Marion Wayne Lyons: Wayne was born on March 9th 1932 in Ashdown, Arkansas. He was the oldest child of Walter Lyons and Ruthie Lee (Sewell) Lyons. He attended school through the 9th grade and then quit, sometimes wishing he hadn't. His girlfriend was in school and he couldn't see her very much if he didn't attend school. Wayne held various jobs growing up, everything from working in the fields to working at the Basket factory. About 1949 Wayne moved to Topeka, Kansas. He decided he wanted to marry Patsy (Grice) Nelson. Patsy was in the process of a divorce from her first husband, Rudolph Nelson. In Kansas there was a six-month waiting period before your divorce became final, so Wayne and Patsy went to Harrisonville, MO. and they were married. Wayne worked at CGF Grain Elevator when he decided to go to Radio and Television repair school. He signed up for the course and took most of it by mail. When it came time for the final test and graduation, Wayne and his wife Patsy and their three children went by train to Louisville, Kentucky. He passed his finals and graduated from the school in 1958. For the first several years, Wayne worked for a couple of different television repair shops. He then decided he would open his own shop, "Arkie's TV Service" Arkie's was in business for more than 20 years. Working for himself enabled Wayne the freedom and the finances to take his family on many wonderful vacations. They traveled in everything from a Dodge Van and a tent to a 16-foot camping trailer and finally a 1958 Chevrolet school bus. With their large family and usually some friends or another family coming along, it was always full of fun and surprises. After Wayne married Mary Francis Crettol, he moved with his youngest daughter to Lyndon, Kansas. He operated a Radio Shack Store in Osage City, Kansas and also repaired televisions in the back. He loved to play with the kids that came into the store to play with all the toys. Wayne and Mary Francis bought a motorhome and started to travel whenever they could. They just loved the freedom to roam wherever they wanted. He called it "his ever changing picture window." They decided they would travel full time and they loved it! After about a year of full timing they purchased a newer, larger motorhome. Wayne and Mary Francis were living their dream and couldn't have been happier. They were like a couple of kids, they really were. Marion Wayne Lyons passed away at his home in Lyndon Kansas, January 14, 1995. Wayne died of Cancer. He is buried next to Mary Francis in the Lyndon Cemetery in Lyndon, Kansas.
Notes for Patsy Odessel Grice: Patsy was the kind of mother that every child should have. She was at home when they were in school, cared where her children were at, and who they were with. She took the time to play with her kids, they took her outside in a snowstorm once and pushed her down and rubbed her face in it and she thought it was fun. She had a water fight one summer with her kids and the fight made its way into the house and they were all in trouble when Wayne came home. She was taken from us at an early age with lung cancer. She was special! Patsy is buried in Topeka, Kansas in Rochester Cemetery.

If you could see your ancestors all standing in a row.
Would you be proud of them? Or don't you really know ?
Strange discoveries are sometimes made, in climbing the family tree,
Occasionally one is found in line, who shocks his progeny.
If you could see your ancestors, all standing in a row,
Perhaps there might be one or two, you wouldn't care to know.
Now turn the question right about, and take another view.
When you shall meet your ancestors, will they be proud of you ?
