Weems moved from Alabama to Howard(then

Sevier)County,Arkansas in 1855. They came

with other family members and their

children in covered wagons. They built

rafts to cross the Mississippi River.

Daniel was a veteran of the Mexican War.

He was born in Hall County, Georgia, the son

of Thomas and Mary Weems of South Caroli-

ia. He had been previously married to Caroli-

ia Davenport of Georgia and had one son,

John, by that marriage.

He and Rosanna were married 8-17-1849

n Benton County (Calhoun), Alabama. She

was the daughter of Jehue and Catherine (Gil-

bert) Littlefield. Their children were Mary

Catherine Weems (1850-1921) married Hans

ford Newton Sanders 12-27-1873; Geor-

geana Weems (1853-1921) married Thomas

Young (12-28-1871; Erastus Weems married

Idella Logan 10-10-1878; William W. Weems

1858-1897) married Isabelle Young; Deela

L. Weems (1864) married James Ausse

Arnold 3-16-1882; Daniel Weems (died

young); Phillip Jehu Weems (1868-1877).

Daniel was known as "The Irishman" and

talked with a definite brogue much to the

delight of his grandchildren. Rosanna was

called "Aunt Duck." They lived and farmed

at Possom Hollow, Kolb Town, and Euclid

according to deed records and recollections of

descendants.

In his old age, as patriarch of a large clan,

Daniel's advice and judgment were earnestly

sought and respected by younger members of

the family. The children loved to sit around as

he told them of their migration from Alabama

and his experiences in both the Mexican and

Civil Wars.

Daniel and Rosanna are buried near Dierks

in the Allen Cemetery.

Daniel and Rosanna moved from Alabama around 1855 to Sevier, Arkansas which later became Howard Co. Arkansas. Daniel and Rosanna are both buried in Allen Cemetery near Dierks Arkansas. Daniel's death cert. says he is buried in Green Chapel Cemetery but I know this is not accurate. We have visited his grave in Allen Cemetery. Allen Cemetery in located near Dierks, Arkansas. It's a beautiful cemetery that is not real easy to find. Go to Dierks, Arkansas and go south on Arkansas Ave. 2.5 miles to Allen Cemetery road. Go west on Allen Cemetery road and take the 3rd right hand turn and it's at the end of the road.

William W. Weems (5-2-1858) was the son

of Daniel and Rosanna (Littlefield) Weems.

He married Isabelle Young (Feb. 1861-Aug.

1930),daughter of William Wilson and Mary

(Weems) Young. Her parents may possibly

have come to Arkansas in the same wagon

train as William's parents. Mary (Weems)

Young was a relative of Daniel Weems.

William was nicknamed "Bow" because of

his bowed legs, which family trait still occurs

in some descendants today, much to our dis-

may. Isabelle was known as "Babe" and that

nickname is still favored in the Young fami-

lies. She was a sister to Thomas Young who

married William's sister, Georgeana Weems.

They were Baptists and farmers.

William died leaving Babe to raise the chil-

dren alone. They had a rough time of it, but

Babe vowed she would not put a step-father

over her children while they were small. After

the children were grown she married a Mr.

Pierce. She was again left a widow and later

married Billy Echols. She is buried in the

Allen Cemetery beside William. She is

remembered as always being jolly, never com

plaining and wearing a smile even at the most

trying moments.

William and Isabelle were the parents of six

children: Jehu b. 1882 m. Maisel Brock; Cath-

rine (1884-1911) m. Cleveland Garner; Don-

ald Booker (1889-1933) m. Elmer McAnally;

William Cooper (1889-1967) m. Nettie

Smith; Alice (1892-1987) m. L.D. Grice; and

Erastus (1894-1920) m. Bertha Mae McAna~

ly.

Johnie remembers cutting cross ties with his father. He says his father could cut 100 ties a day. A long day I'm sure and paid very little. Johnie worked most of his career for Blackburns Tree Service which evolved into Blackburns Nursery and Landscape.

Such a valued employee that after he retired they would call him long distance to ask for his expertise.

Patsy was the kind of mother that every child should have. She was at home when

they were in school,cared where her children were at, and who they were with.

She took the time to play with her children, they took her outside in a snow storm

once and pushed her down and rubbed her face in it an she thought it was great

fun. She had a water fight one summer with her kids and the fight made its way into

the house and they were all in trouble when Wayne came home. She was taken

from us at an early age with lung cancer. She was special!

Wayne took a correspondence school for TV repair and ran his own television shop

most of his carreer. He loved to take his family on vacation.He would stay up late at night planning vacations with his youngest son sometimes. It didn't matter that the vacation was still a year away,they still had fun dreaming about it. In retirement, he

traveled full time with his wife Mary Francis Michael in their motorhome. He had a

love for travel that would never end. Wayne died of Lung Cancer.
